WHO |
The World Health Organization is the directing and coordinating authority on international health within the United Nations system. The objective of WHO is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health. Health, as defined in the WHO Constitution, is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. WHO's main areas of work are health systems; health through the life-course; noncommunicable and communicable diseases; preparedness, surveillance and response; and corporate services.
Agenda: Production, distribution and supply of the pandemic vaccine
In the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, the development of the vaccine is now a global issue. The core issues are production, distribution, and supply.
First of all, production matters. The vaccine research has been conducted by individual countries, or groups of countries, not worldwide cooperation. Part of the reason for this is the unpreparedness of global research. Delegates should find out ways to encourage cooperative research and better exchange of information.
Next is distribution. The selfishness of each country may disturb the impartial distribution of the vaccine. For instance, Remdesivir, known as the only proven symptom relief drug of coronavirus, was monopolized by the United States, and some other rich countries. Delegates should discuss the righteous way of distribution.
The last is supply. In developing countries, transporting and supplying vaccines is a huge problem due to the lack of infrastructure. As a result, developing countries may suffer from sporadic spreads even after the vaccine is produced. Delegates may come up with ideas to facilitate the supply of vaccines in backward areas.
